2014 Walk for Truth - Information for Participants from Out of Town

We’re thrilled to have out of town guests participating in AREA Fund’s third annual Walk for Truth! We hope you enjoy your time in Powell River. Powell River is a tourist destination in the summer; so, please book your hotel rooms and flights early, and consider making ferry reservations, if permitted on your sailing route.

The two main hotels in Powell River are the Beach Gardens Resort and the Town Centre Hotel. They are both pet friendly hotels, but be sure to mention your pet when you make your reservation. Click here for other accommodation options.

Beach Gardens Resort

The Beach Gardens Resort is less than a 10 minute drive from Willingdon Beach (the venue for the walk). It’s on the ocean, has a pool, weight room, pub and restaurant. They also have a ”Family Fun” package and a “Stay and Play” package for golfers. Visit them online: Beach Gardens Resort.
Make reservations by calling 1-800-663-7070.

Town Centre Hotel

The Town Centre Hotel Resort is less than a 5 minute drive from Willingdon Beach (the venue for the walk). It’s located in the centre of town, has a restaurant and pub onsite, and is within walking distance of shops, restaurants and cafes. Visit them online: Town Centre Hotel.
Make reservations by calling 1-866-485-3001.

BC Ferries

Please get to ferry terminals early; they are busy places in the summer. Make reservations if you can and come prepared. Bring snacks, drinks, books, iPads, soccer balls . . . . anything to keep you entertained while you wait. It’s a scenic trip, but waiting for ferries requires patience.

From Vancouver and the Sunshine Coast

If you’re travelling to Powell River from Vancouver, you’ll need to take two ferries; people on the Sunshine Coast only need to take the second of these two sailings. The first is from Horseshoe Bay to Langdale, with a crossing time of 40 minutes. You will then drive approximately 1 hour and 20 minutes to Earl’s Cove. The second ferry will take you from Earl’s Cove to Saltery Bay, with a crossing time of 50 minutes. The drive into Powell River is approximately 30 minutes along the Sunshine Coast Highway. You can make a reservation for the first ferry, but not the second one.

From Texada Island

If you live on Texada, you know how to get to Powell River, but if you're from elsewhere and would like to visit Texada while in town for the walk, here's the link to the Texada Island - Powell River Ferry Schedule.

Pacific Coastal Airlines

Pacific Coastal Airlines flies between Powell River and more than a dozen communities in BC; so, it’s not possible for us to list all of the details here, but from many communities it will be possible to fly into Powell River and back home the day of the event. The drive between the airport and Willingdon Beach (the venue for the walk) is less than 10 minutes. Please visit them online: Pacific Coastal Airlines.

**Make sure that you book as early as possible to ensure that you get a seat. The planes are small, but the flights are wonderful, especially on clear days.
If you’re flying in from Vancouver, please note that Pacific Coastal flies out of the South Terminal, NOT the Main Terminal.
